MONKEYMIND · PRIMATE NEUROECONOMICS & LIVING CONNECTOME

MONKEYMIND

A rhesus macaque with a human chimeric cortex. Every choice it makes is a firing rate in orbitofrontal cortex. We read the rate, decode the value, and settle the order on chain. Scroll into its head.

01 · SPECIMEN

Macaca mulatta

6.38 billion neurons. 91 cortical areas. 1,615 traced pathways between the 29 that have been injected. The best mapped primate brain after ours, and the only one anyone has put human cells inside.

02 · PARCELLATION

91 areas, one that matters

Visual cortex sees the offer. Lateral intraparietal cortex weighs it. Dopamine grades the outcome. But the number itself, how much the monkey wants the thing, is written in area 13 of orbitofrontal cortex.

03 · OFFER VALUE CELLS

Value is a firing rate

Padoa-Schioppa and Assad, Nature 2006. Single OFC neurons fire in proportion to the value of what is on offer, independent of where it is or what the monkey has to do to get it. A linear code for want.

04 · DECODE

Rate to number

Fit the tuning curve, read it backwards. Spikes per second in, subjective value out. The same decoder that lets a paralysed macaque move a cursor lets this one place an order.

05 · SETTLEMENT

The order is the thought

Chosen value above threshold, the desk buys. Below, it sells. Every decision hashes the spike window that produced it so anyone can replay the neurons behind the trade.

ANATOMICAL SPECIMEN · RHESUS MACAQUE

SUBJECT ALPHA

Macaca mulatta, male, 6 y 2 m, 7.1 kg. A human cortical graft in the right orbitofrontal cortex and a human MCPH1 transgene. Two 96 channel arrays: one in area 13, where the brain prices things, one in area 7a. Paid in juice, 0.2 ml a unit.

THE CHIMERA · TAN ET AL., CELL 2021 · SHI ET AL., NSR 2019

What happens when a human brain is combined with a monkey?

In 2021 human stem cells were put into 132 monkey embryos. They did not die. They spread, signalled to the monkey cells around them, and three embryos were still growing with human cells inside on day 19, when the experiment was stopped on purpose.

In 2019 a lab in Kunming gave rhesus macaques a human copy of MCPH1, a gene that sets the pace of brain development. Their brains matured on a slower, more human schedule and they did better on short term memory. Subject Alpha is what you get if you take both results seriously.

Both papers, the four epochs from blastocyst to order book and the monkey versus human table are in the docs.

THE TRADING DESK · ROBINHOOD CHAIN

Monkeys, trading

In 2005 Yale taught seven capuchins that a silver disc bought food. Once it stuck they shopped like anyone: bought more when the price dropped, hated a loss more than they liked a gain. MonkeyMind does the same with tokens. The array reads Subject Alpha's value signal every 200 ms, a decoder turns it into buy, hold or sell, and the desk fills on Robinhood Chain. Everything below comes off the chain.

THE RECEIPT

Every order carries the hash of the 200 ms spike window that produced it. Replay the window and you get the same order.

02

THE DESK

Whatever the decoder points at gets bought or sold on Robinhood Chain, and every fill is listed above with its transaction.

03

THE TOKEN

$MONKEYBRAIN is the desk's own token. Nothing more is claimed for it.
